In the years 1950-1980 Polish children’s book illustrations were popular all over the world. Polish book illustration has a rich tradition, it is nearly 200 years old. This is why it is important to make sure that the books we give our children are beautifully and carefully designed so that they inspire, stir the imagination, develop sensitivity, shape the aesthetic sense and encourage children to ask questions and look for answers. A book is a child’s first encounter with art, literature and imagery.
The arrangement of the exhibition space, inspired by book pages, invites everyone to play and is sure to encourage the next generation of young readers to explore literature.īooks play an invaluable role in children’s development. These selected titles showcase their innovation, artistic expressivity, diversity and inventiveness. The exhibition will present children’s book illustrations by 15 Polish, 5 Lithuanian and 5 Ukrainian artists. With the help of new technologies we will enter literary realms and become protagonists ourselves. It will also be an opportunity to make up your own endings to well-known stories. In the nooks and crannies of a beautiful old building in the Old Town we will meet large-format characters, usually hidden inside books. The exhibition “Peekaboo” at Workshops of Culture in Lublin is an invitation to the magical w orld of book illustrations and a unique opportunity to become its part.
